"Worry Rock" is a Green Day cover song recorded by Weezer in 2003. Weezer contributed the track to the compilation A Different Shade Of Green: A Tribute To Green Day, released on July 22, 2003 on Skunk Ape Records. Recorded in the winter of 2002, the group's semi-acoustic version of "Worry Rock" -- a song originally found on Green Day's 1997 Nimrod album -- was produced by Rod Cervera, who also recorded Weezer's 2002 album Maladroit. The track also features that dog. alumnus Petra Haden and her sister Tanya Haden on violin and cello, respectively.
Weezer were the subject of a previous Skunk Ape compilation, 2001's Making Noise: A Tribute To Weezer.
Lyrical change
The lyric "Fucked without a kiss again", from the Green Day original, was changed to "Hugged without a kiss again" for Weezer's cover. This lyrical switch effectively alters the context of the song and makes the narrator and his relationship much more innocent.
Lyrics
<Lyrics>Another sentimental argument and bitter love Hugged without a kiss again dragged it through the mud Yelling at brick walls and punching windows made of stone The worry rock has turned to dust fallen on our pride
A knocked down dragged out fight Fat lips and open wounds Another wasted night an no one will take the fall
Where do we go from here And what did you do with the directions Promise me no dead end streets And I'll guarantee we'll have the road
A knocked down dragged out fight Fat lips and open wounds Another wasted night no one will take the fall
Another sentimental argument and bitter love
Hugged without a kiss again dragged it through the mud Where do we go from here And what did you do with the directions Promise me no dead end streets And I'll guarantee we'll have the road And I'll guarantee we'll have the road And I'll guarantee we'll have the road</Lyrics>
