["La Mancha Screwjob" is about someone I once worked with and] having mixed feelings about them as a collaborator, but ultimately realising we’re much better than anything I can do on my own. Owning up to the mistakes I made in that relationship and reaffirming the value I see in that relationship.

"La Mancha Screwjob" was originally written for Weezer's 2014 album Everything Will Be Alright in the End,[2] but "didn't fit" on the album. The version on Pacific Daydream is purportedly mostly unchanged, lyrically, from the earlier iteration.[2] The intro and outro to the song feature vocal screeches, likely Cuomo's voice manipulated in Pro Tools by Butch Walker.[2]
The significance of the title "La Mancha Screwjob" is unknown. La Mancha is a region of Spain, and "La Mancha Screwjob" is the title of a 2015 episode of the podcast RadioLab.[3] The song was co-written by Rivers Cuomo and Josh Alexander. The song was originally titled "Summer Night", a filename from the Daydream sessions and an entry in the ASCAP Repertory credited to Cuomo and Alexander[4] confirm this.
