"Take On Me" is the fourth track on "Weezer (The Teal Album)". It was originally written by Norwegian synthpop band a-ha and released in 1984. It was later used in the soundtrack for the third Spongebob movie, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.
Overview
Patrick Wilson originally had a "grand reinvention" of "Take On Me," but the band ultimately decided to record the album much more faithfully to the original songs.[1][2] In addition to Weezer performing it live briefly in 2018 and 2019, Rivers Cuomo performed the song multiple times at solo acoustic concerts.[3]
It was featured in the film The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, initially released exclusively in Canadian theaters on August 14, 2020,[4] alongside an original track performed by the band called "It's Always Summer in Bikini Bottom."
Music video
The music video, directed by Carrick Moore Gerety, was released on February 12, 2019 and stars actor Finn Wolfhard portraying a teenage Rivers Cuomo. Wolfhard's bandmates from his real-life band Calpurnia portray Cuomo's bandmates in the band Avant Garde. Avant Garde's eventual name, Zoom, is also referenced. Like the original A-ha music video, the video also features pencil-drawn, rotoscoped animation over live action footage.
Personnel
- Rivers Cuomo – lead guitar, lead vocals

Lyrics
Talking away
Though I don't know what I'm to say
I'll say it anyway
Today is another day to find you
Shying away
I'll be coming for your love. OK?
Take on me (take on me)
Take me on (take on me)
I'll be gone
In a day or two
So needless to say
I'm odds and ends
But I'll be stumbling away
Slowly learning that life is OK
Say after me
"It's no better to be safe than sorry"
Take on me (take on me)
Take me on (take on me)
I'll be gone
In a day or two
Oh, things that you say, yeah
Is it life or just to play my worries away?
You're all the things I've got to remember
You're shying away
Well I'll be coming for you anyway
Take on me (take on me)
Take me on (take on me)
I'll be gone
In a day
Take on me (take on me)
Take me on (take on me)
I'll be gone (take on me)
In a day (take on me)
