"Average Person" is first known to have been demoed by Rivers Cuomo in July of [[2004]] at S.I.R. Rehearsal Studios during pre-production on ''Make Believe'', days before entering Grandmaster Recorders to record the album. The sessions lasted from [[July 22]] to [[October 22]], 2004, and was one of 12 songs that Cuomo instinctively felt were right for the album and asked the band to concentrate on. Until early [[2005]], the song was designated to be the opening track.<ref>''Amazon.com'' March 25, 2005.
