The Tapulous application is a game similar to Rock Band or Guitar Hero and features Weezer covering six Christmas carols. The songs are described in the press release as "funky but authentic".  Two bonus tracks are available in the game ("Pork and Beans" and "The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Hymn)") along with unspecified extra Weezer tracks, likely to be downloaded from an in-game system.
All songs on Christmas with Weezer were recorded by Pat Wilson, with the exception of bass guitar, provided by Scott Shriner.

The Tapulous application was released on December 5, 2008, and featured gameplay similar to other rhythm games (such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band). Alongside the six Christmas carols which the game debuted, two bonus tracks were playable exclusively on the hardest difficulty: "Pork and Beans" and "The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Hymn)". By beating the game, a "bonus video" could be unlocked, containing numerous short segments; notably, footage from a 2008 rehearsal during which Pat Wilson is performing "Only in Dreams".
Press release
The official press release for the Christmas with Weezer phone game which was distributed by DGC was shared on Karl's Corner on December 3:
The songs were originally intended to be available only through the phone game, however fan outcry led to them being partially remixed and released as an official EP on digital music services shortly after the app's release. The EP's cover artwork is the same as the game's logo.

The EP received a limited physical CD release in Japan in 2022. It was released alongside 25 other Christmas-themed albums and EPs on the Universal Music label, as part of a set of CDs dubbed the "Christmas Album Masterpiece Collection".

"I love my iPhone and all the apps that you can download," said Weezer drummer Pat Wilson. "I love that our band is the first to actually record songs specifically for an app and Tap Tap Revenge seemed like the perfect one. I am excited to tap along to what we recorded and hope it brings holiday cheer to all kinds of different thumbs and fingers."</blockquote>
