In an interview for the show [https://audioboom.com/posts/4851253-weezer-on-touring-with-panic-at-the-disco-loving-the-usa-new-music-and-working-with-producer 2 Hours with Matt Pinfield], Cuomo explained that this version of the song described a relationship that was "getting ugly", but didn't seem to "take-off" with the music. He then began singing the lyric "Good Thing" around the melody, and wrote new lyrics about his experiences around Venice Beach, transforming the song into its final form which would appear on ''The White Album''. On a Periscope live stream on April 1 2018, Rivers sang part of the original Codependent chorus towards the end of a performance of "Girl We Got A Good Thing".
