'''''To edit the Featured Image page, see [[Weezerpedia:Featured image|here]]'''''.
The featured image section of Weezerpedia showcases a Weezer-related image that is changed every month.  It pulls its wikitext from a specific page, i.e. [[Weezerpedia: Featured image March 2023]]. Editors may (and [[Weezerpedia:Make a move|are encouraged to!]]) edit videos from any month within the current year.

The Featured Image section of Weezerpedia showcases a Weezer-related image that is changed every 2 to 3 weeks.  It pulls its data from a template page that can be changed to showcase different images that pertain to Weezerpedia's content.

==1. Choose an image==
==Getting started==
===Choose an image===
Take a quick look through Weezerpedia's [[Gallery|galleries]] and find an image that you feel is important or interesting enough to feature on the [[Main Page]]. It could be anything! We ask you to not please not choose an image that has already been featured, and a gallery of those images can be found [[Gallery:Featured images|here]].

We're going to use the image below as an example:
We're going to use the image below as an example:

[[Image:Rivers-and-jermaine.jpg|400px]]
[[File:2015 Mar 29 Rivers Jake Sinclair.jpg|400px]]

==2. Place your new image on the page==
Make sure you don't navigate away from your image, because you need to copy and paste some information from it. Weezerpedia uses a template to feature images on the Main Page, and this template is very easy to edit.

The template follows this format:

<small><pre>{{Featured image code|IMAGE NAME|IMAGE SIZE|DESCRIPTION.|DATE|PHOTOGRAPHER|GALLERY NAME}}</pre></small>

Here are some more specific directions for this step:

===1. Image name===
Copy and paste the entire image name for the image that you want to feature. This ''includes'' the file type of the image (e.g. .jpg or .bmp). If you go the file page for the image, you can easily copy and paste the image's full name. For example, [[:Image:Rivers-and-jermaine.jpg|this picture]] of [[Rivers Cuomo]] and [[Jermaine Dupri]] is named ''Image:Rivers-and-jermaine.jpg''. The name of that image is clearly displayed at the top of that page.

Copy that name into the first section of the template code:
<small><pre>{{Featured image code|Image:Rivers-and-jermaine.jpg|IMAGE SIZE|DESCRIPTION.|DATE|PHOTOGRAPHER|GALLERY NAME}}</pre></small>

===2. Image size===
The image must be sized correctly for it to fit on the Main Page. Usually images fit nicely on the page when they are '''between 300 and 600 pixels.''' The Featured Article and Featured Song fit into the same column as the Featured Image, and, if you make the image too big or too small, the borders of the column can get sloppy. It is very important that you '''preview the page''' before you save your changes, because then you can check if your image sizing is correct.

Our Rivers and Jermaine image should be about 450 pixels. You add this formatting by typing the '''number of pixels followed by px.'''

<small><pre>{{Featured image code|Image:Rivers-and-jermaine.jpg|450px|DESCRIPTION.|DATE|PHOTOGRAPHER|GALLERY NAME}}</pre></small>

===3. Image description===
This is the most open-ended part of the process. Describe the image! If it's a live performance, say what tour it is from. If it is an in-studio shot, explain that to us. If it's just a picture of Scott Shriner, say something like "Weezer's bassist Scott Shriner poses for a photo shoot." '''''Every description should be a full sentence, with a period.'''''

Our image comes from an interview with Billboard.com, so we'll describe it as so.

'''''Note: '''''<small>''A line break has been added to this code so that it will all appear within the margins of this page. There shouldn't be a line break in your actual coding!''</small>

<small><pre>{{Featured image code|Image:Rivers-and-jermaine.jpg|450px|[[Rivers Cuomo]] and [[Jermaine Dupri]] pose for a photo after an interview
with www.Billboard.com.|DATE|PHOTOGRAPHER|GALLERY NAME}}</pre></small>

===4. Date, Photographer===
===Choose a month===
These pieces of the format are very important. Associating dates with images makes them more relevant and informative, and Weezerpedia asks you to add as much date information about the image as you can find. ''c. 2008'' would be totally fine! If you don't know the date, put in ''Date unknown.''
Check out the table on the [[Weezerpedia:Featured image#"I want to edit the featured image..."|Weezerpedia:Featured image]] page, and find a month that isn't complete yet. [[:Category:Incomplete featured content]] lists all featured content pages that need editing.

Weezerpedia requires that all the media featured on our site be attributed to its rightful owner, creator, or source, and the Featured Images on the Main Page are no exception. '''We recognize that not all of our images are attributed to owners, but we ask that you please attempt to find the owner of the image before featuring it.''' If you absolutely can't find the photographer, put ''Photographer unknown.''
Let's say you select '''March 2023''', for example.
====What you'll find on an "incomplete" featured page====
Prior to being edited by users, featured content pages are all created by site admin at the beginning of the calendar year and left "incomplete." Looks like this:
[[Image:Featured video help 4.png|500px|left|thumb]]
{{clear}}

Our example image was taken on November 13, 2009 and it is attributed to the Billboard staff.
If you open up a page like this to edit it, you'll see:
<pre>
{{Template:Featured page header|year=2023|month=March|pagetype=video|edited=}}
<onlyinclude><includeonly>{{Weezerpedia:Featured video February 2023}}</onlyinclude></includeonly>
</pre>

'''''Note: '''''<small>''A line break has been added to this code so that it will all appear within the margins of this page. There shouldn't be a line break in your actual coding!''</small>
Looks kinda confusing and strange! Don't worry. All you need to do is...
==Copy from a previous month==
The easiest way to feature an image is to update the wikitext from a previous month. You can pull the formatting from a past month, replace a few details, and you will have a readymade page!

<small><pre>{{Featured image code|Image:Rivers-and-jermaine.jpg|450px|[[Rivers Cuomo]] and [[Jermaine Dupri]] pose for a photo after an interview
Sticking with our example above, we'd navigate to [[Weezerpedia:Featured image February 2023]], hit edit, and copy everything there. We'd then dash back to the March 2023 page, and replace all the content there with the wikitext on our clipboard.
with www.Billboard.com.|November 13, 2009 |Photo by Billboard staff|GALLERY NAME}}</pre></small>

===5. Gallery name===
==Update the featured page header==
The last piece of this Featured Image provides a link to the specific image [[Gallery|gallery]] that your image belongs in. The galleries that you can choose from are as follows:
Continuing with March/February 2023 as our examples, our page will now look like this:
<pre>
<noinclude>{{Template:Featured page header|year=2023|month=February|pagetype=image|edited=yes}}</noinclude>
{{Featured image code 2|image=File:Super-Chrono-19930807-a.jpg|imagesize=600px|caption=[[Rivers Cuomo]] and [[Adam Orth]] squashing [[Karl Koch]] under a mattress.|photocredit=Provided by: [[Karl Koch]]|date=[[August 7]], [[1993]]|gallery=Rivers Cuomo}}
</pre>
The "featured page header" template gives this page its basic structure. You only need to update one small piece of it: change the month name to the month of the page you're editing:
<pre>
{{Template:Featured page header|year=2023|month=March|pagetype=image|edited=yes}}
</pre>
==Pause to preview==
To quote [[User:Deckra]]:

It's always a good idea to preview your pages as you go. Take a moment to pause and make sure everything is coming out okay so far. There are three buttons at the bottom of your editing box - click the middle one!
[[Image:Preview button.png|thumb|left|300px]]
{{clear}}
Everything look okay?
==Update the "featured image code" template==
<pre>
{{Featured image code 2|image=File:Super-Chrono-19930807-a.jpg|imagesize=600px|caption=[[Rivers Cuomo]] and [[Adam Orth]] squashing [[Karl Koch]] under a mattress.|photocredit=Provided by: [[Karl Koch]]|date=[[August 7]], [[1993]]|gallery=Rivers Cuomo}}
</pre>
This template has six '''named parameters:'''
*'''image''' - input the image name here. For the above [[:File:2015 Mar 29 Rivers Jake Sinclair.jpg|image of Jake Sinclair and Rivers Cuomo]], it is <nowiki>File:2015 Mar 29 Rivers Jake Sinclair.jpg</nowiki>. You can also type <nowiki>Image:2015 Mar 29 Rivers Jake Sinclair.jpg</nowiki>, but you need to have the filetype prefix "File:" or "Image:".
*'''imagesize''' - image size ins pixels, abbreviated px. Example: 600px.
*'''caption''' - describe the image, use internal links when you can.
*'''photocredit''' - Example: Photo by: [[Karl Koch]]
*'''date''' - use "circa" or "c." if you can't find specifics.
*'''gallery''' - [[Gallery]] name.
Updated for our example image above, it would look like this:
<pre>
{{Featured image code 2|image=Image:2015 Mar 29 Rivers Jake Sinclair.jpg|imagesize=450px|caption=[[Rivers Cuomo]] and [[White Album]] producer [[Jake Sinclair]] at the beach.|photocredit=Photo by [[Rivers Cuomo]]|date=[[March 29]], [[2015]]|gallery=Rivers Cuomo}}
</pre>

*[[Gallery:Weezer|Weezer]]
All together, our text should look like this
*[[Gallery:Rivers_Cuomo|Rivers Cuomo]]
<pre>
*[[Gallery:Patrick_Wilson|Patrick Wilson]]
<noinclude>{{Template:Featured page header|year=2023|month=March|pagetype=image|edited=yes}}</noinclude>
*[[Gallery:Brian_Bell|Brian Bell]]
{{Featured image code 2|image=Image:2015 Mar 29 Rivers Jake Sinclair.jpg|imagesize=450px|caption=[[Rivers Cuomo]] and [[White Album]] producer [[Jake Sinclair]] at the beach.|photocredit=Photo by [[Rivers Cuomo]]|date=[[March 29]], [[2015]]|gallery=Rivers Cuomo}}
*[[Gallery:Scott_Shriner|Scott Shriner]]
</pre>
*[[Gallery:Matt_Sharp|Matt Sharp]]
*[[Gallery:Mikey Welsh|Mikey Welsh]]
*[[Gallery:Karl's Corner|Karl's Corner]]
*[[Gallery:Live|Live]]
*[[Gallery:The Special Goodness|The Special Goodness]]
*[[Gallery:The_Rentals|The Rentals]]
*[[Gallery:Weezer Related People|Weezer related people]]
*[[Gallery:Album art|Album art]]
*[[Gallery:Wallpapers|Wallpapers]]
*[[Weezerpedia:Logo gallery|Weezerpedia logo gallery]]

Enter the name of the gallery into the final spot in the code.
=Extra mile steps=
==Update the featured image list==
Weezerpedia tries to keep organized records of the content that it features, and we currently do this for images through the a simple chart. If you can update the chart, you'd be helping our site stay tidy!

Our example would use the Rivers Cuomo gallery.
You can access the current year's featured video list [[Template:Featured image table {{CURRENTYEAR}}|here]].
===Table editing===
Using [[Template:Featured image table 2023|2023]] as an example, the table should look like this:

'''''Note: '''''<small>''A line break has been added to this code so that it will all appear within the margins of this page. There shouldn't be a line break in your actual coding!''</small>
[[File:Featured image help.png|thumb|left|550px]]
{{clear}}

<small><pre>{{Featured image code|Image:Rivers-and-jermaine.jpg|450px|[[Rivers Cuomo]] and [[Jermaine Dupri]] pose for a photo after an interview
The column names for this table are listed toward the top of the page, in that first batch of code. They are: ''Month'', ''Image'', ''Gallery'', and ''User''. Here's what the code looks like to fill in a new row of the table:
with www.Billboard.com.|November 13, 2009 |Photo by Billboard staff|Rivers Cuomo}}</pre></small>
<pre>
|- this is a divider
| | [[Weezerpedia: Featured image MONTH YEAR|MONTH YEAR]]
| | [[:Image:YOUR IMAGE NAME.FILETYPE]]
| | [[Gallery:GALLERY NAME]]
| | --~~~~
|-  this is a divider
</pre>
Filled in with details from our example above:
<pre>
|-
| [[Weezerpedia:Featured image March 2023|March 2023]]
| |[[:Image:2015 Mar 29 Rivers Jake Sinclair.jpg]]
| |[[Gallery:Rivers Cuomo]]
| |--[[User:Theangel]]
|-
</pre>

Your finished image will look like this:
You stick the <nowiki>:</nowiki> colon character before the image name to avoid embedding it. It just links to the image.

{{Featured image code|Image:Rivers-and-jermaine.jpg|450px|[[Rivers Cuomo]] and [[Jermaine Dupri]] pose for a photo after an interview with www.Billboard.com.|November 13, 2009 |Photo by Billboard staff|Rivers Cuomo}}
The four tildes above create a link to your user page, and provide a timestamp of the edit. The repeating of the month and year in the first row (<nowiki>[[Weezerpedia: Featured image March 2023|March 2023]]<nowiki>) create what's called a "piped link." Everything to the left of the bracket character (<nowiki>|</nowiki>) tells the wiki what page you want to link to, and everything to the right of the bracket becomes display text. The example above gives you this: [[Weezerpedia: Featured image March 2023|March 2023]].

===Preview, save===
Here's what the above code (placed in its proper spot in the table wikitext from the above screenshot) will look like:
[[File:Featured image help 2.png|thumb|left|550px]]
{{clear}}

'''''That's the end of the specific directions. You're in the clear!'''''
Preview your version to make sure it looks okay!
==Make a redirect page==
[[Gallery:Featured images]] (which displays all featured images as thumbnails populates via a redirect naming system.

==3. Tag the talk page, add the image to the "Featured" gallery==
Steps:
Tag the talk page of the image that you are featuring with a Featured Image template. Every time an image is featured on Weezerpedia, a record must be made of it. This is done by typing the following text at the top of the talk page of an image:
#Type the following into the search bar so you can create a new page: <nowiki>File:Featured image</nowiki> and then type the current month and year ({{{CURRENTMONTH}}} {{{CURRENTYEAR}}}).
<pre>{{Featured image|MONTH NAME AND DAY|YEAR}}</pre>
#"Redirect" that page (i.e. make it "forward" to) your file by typing:
<pre>#REDIRECT [[YOUR FILE NAME]]</pre>

Replace the ''MONTH NAME AND DAY'' and ''YEAR'' spaces with the appropriate information.
==Pat yourself on the back!==

For example, if an image was distinguished as a Featured Image on February 14, 1992, the text entered would be:

<pre>{{Featured image|February 14|1992}}</pre>

and the template would look like:

{{Featured image|February 14|1992}}

You also need to add the image to the [[Gallery:Featured images|"Featured images" gallery]]. To do this, go to the edit tab of the Featured Images gallery page. Directly underneath the text ''<nowiki><gallery></nowiki>'', add the following information:

<pre>Image:IMAGE NAME|DATE THAT YOU ARE FEATURING IT</pre>

Weezerpedia does this because the "previous featured images" link that you added earlier is a link to this gallery page. If you don't add your image to that gallery, it won't be linked to.

==4. Preview the page first==
Before you save anything, preview your page by clicking "Show preview." You're saving content that's going to appear on the Main Page, so it better be perfect!

==5. Pat yourself on the back!==
