"Hippies" was written by [[Rivers Cuomo]] in early [[2013]] in contention for the album that would eventually {{PN|Weezer}} ninth album, ''[[Everything Will Be Alright in the End]]''. The song was released as part of the digital compilation ''[[Alone XI: The EWBAITE Years]]'' in [[2020]]. The verse melody is a reworking of the demo "[[The Ballad of St. George]]," written a few months prior.
