[[Rivers Cuomo]] co-wrote the song with [[Jonny Coffer]], who previously co-wrote the [[Weezer]] songs "[[Jacked Up]]," "[[Feels Like Summer]]," and "[[Get Right]]." "Living in L.A." was surprise released alongside the ''Black Album'' track "[[High as a Kite]]", on [[February 21]], [[2019]] and was debuted live on [[February 26]], [[2019]] on ''[[Weezer TV appearance: 02/26/2019 - The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon|The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon]]''. The album's liner notes (as well as the song's official YouTube description) feature a verse with [[#Unused lyrics (liner notes)|lyrics]] that were changed in the final release.
