Overview
Overview
"Saturday Night" was first recorded by Rivers Cuomo on March 7, 2001. It was later demoed by the entire band several times. Four versions have been released to fans through Weezer.com. The first version is notably high-spirited and goofy, and is the only one to include former Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh. It also features significantly different production, falsetto backing vocals, and silly improvised banter in its opening seconds. This first version was recorded on May 27, 2001 at Monster Island Studios in Washington D.C, as a part of the "DC demos." The three versions that followed it were recorded in December, as a part of the official Maladroit recording process. They were performed with a production and attitude much more similar to that of Maladroit, with changes to the solo and lyrics. Scott Shriner plays bass and sings on these three demos.
"Saturday Night" was written by Rivers Cuomo in early 2001. It was later demoed by Weezer on multiple occasions. On May 27, 2001, the song was among several tracks demoed at Monster Island Studios in Washington D.C for the purposes of submitting to potential producers for the band's planned fourth album. This version was later shared with fans on weezer.com. "Saturday Night" was also recorded at BBC Studios in London for the radio program The Evening Session with Steve Lamacq, though it was not broadcast. Weezer attempted the song during the studio sessions for Maladroit at Cello Studios between December 2001 and January 2002, but the song did not make the cut for the album.

The song was brought back one more time during the recording of the planned but later scrapped fifth studio album in June/July 2002. The song bears some similarities to the song おかしいやつ, from the eponymous debut album by Scott & Rivers, released in 2013.
"Saturday Night" was performed live four times throughout 2001. A live soundboard recording of the song from a concert in Portland, Maine was later shared on weezer.com.

Maladroit demo version<br>
* Rivers Cuomo - lead guitar, vocals
* Brian Bell - guitar, backing vocals
* Scott Shriner - bass, backing vocals
* Patrick Wilson - drums

"Saturday Night" is known to have been resurrected at least one additional time during early recording attempts for the band's planned fifth album in 2002, though all songs from these sessions were ultimately scrapped. The song bears some similarities to the 2013 song "Okashii Yatsu," from the eponymous debut album by Scott & Rivers, though it is unknown whether this similarity is coincidental.

Oh how I love that song (Now that you loved it)
Ooh, how I love that song
Proves to me that I'm wrong
Prove to me that I'm wrong
The night away
The night away

Give to me, girl,
Give to me, girl
All of the love that I need
All of the love that I need
Ooh when I'm hungry I feed
Ooh, when I'm hungry I feed
The night away (Now that you loved it, wrong)
The night away

Dreams will never happen to you (They'll never happen to you)
Dreams will never happen to you
Once you feel the freedom is true
Once you feel that freedom is true
I'll be with you
I'll be with you

Take a new stance

Boogie in nights like in France
Boogieing nights like in France
Boogie in nights like in France
Boogieing nights like in France
The night away (that's right)
The night away

Plantin' your seed
Plantin' your seed (Now that you loved it)
Deep in the heart of the Earth
Deep in the heart of the Earth
Tryin' to kneel and give birth Fall to my knees and give birth
Tryin' to kneel and give birth
The night away (Now that you loved it, wrong)
The night away

Watchin' you go
Never again will weep (Now that you loved it)
Now that I see that you keep
The night away (Now that you loved it, wrong)

Dreams will never happen to you (They'll never happen to you)
Dreams will never happen to you
Once you feel the freedom is true
Once you feel that freedom is true
I'll be
I'll be holdin' on
Holdin' on
Holdin' on
Holdin' on
So in love with yourself
So in love with yourself (So in love)
With you
With you
With you
With you</poem>
