"The Christmas Song" was recorded during [[Weezer's]] self-produced pre-production demo sessions for ''The Green Album''.  It was first released on the Los Angeles-area radio station [[KROQ]]'s 2000 edition of their annual christmas compilation, that year entitled ''Kevin and Bean: The Real Slim Santa''.  It was then remixed and partially re-recorded at producer {{Possessive name|Ric Ocasek}} urging, with slightly different lyrics.  This recording is considered the 'standard' version, and is the lead track on ''The Christmas CD'', aka ''Winter Weezerland''.
