I has proven to be one of, if not the, most oft-performed of Weezer's large number of non-album songs.

According to the informational booklet included with the deluxe version of The Blue Album "Suzanne was a talented A&R assistant at Geffen. in the long months of limbo between completing The Blue Album in October '93 and its eventual release in may '94 she became a big Weezer supporter, doing her best to keep the guys optimistic about their future with Geffen. As the lyrics imply, Suzanne did in fact help Rivers out with her spare winter coat when he needed one, and made plates of brownies to cheer him [Rivers] up. Her devotion and aid were perfectly summed up in the song. Before she knew of the songs' existence the guys performed it a cappella for her in her Geffen office. Needless to say it surprised the hell out of her!" | According to the informational booklet included with the deluxe version of The Blue Album "Suzanne was a talented A&R assistant at Geffen. in the long months of limbo between completing The Blue Album in October '93 and its eventual release in may '94 she became a big Weezer supporter, doing her best to keep the guys optimistic about their future with Geffen. They lyrics "even Izzy, Slash, and Axl Rose" was originally written as "even Kurt Cobain and Axl Rose", but Rivers decided to change it out of respect for the Nirvana front man after his early 1994 suicide.

The song was recorded in the summer of 1994, along with "Mykel And Carli" and "My Aveline", and engineered by Chris Shaw. This original version appeared alongside those songs as a B-side to various "Undone" singles that year. In 1995, wqhen the band was asked to submit a track to the soundtrack to Kevin Smith's second film, Mall Rats, the boys chose "Susanne". However, as is oftent he case with Rivers Cuomo, he felt that the track required some sweetening before submission. The original track was remixed, given a new lead vocal, as well as keyboard flavorings. This remix was deemed the 'sandard' version, and besides appearing on said soundtrack, it was featured on the 2004 deluxe reissue of The Blue Album in place of the original.
In addition to these two official versions, there are high-quality bootlegs of two other mixes, which were presumably leaked during the remix session in 1995. A mix with just the backing vocals (no lead vocal track) - in the form of a mediocre-quality mp3 - had been floating around the internet for some time. On January 18, 2009, albumsix.com boardie BringHomeTheTurkey uploaded high-quality mp3s as well as losseless files of this 'karaoke' style mix, as well as an instrumental (no vocals at all). These versions were taken from a bootleg CD-R purchased by BringHomeTheTurkey on eBay in 2002, and have remained in his personal archive until this board release.
