=== The Dum Dums === | |||
The Dum Dums were a glam punk band formed by friends of later members of Wax, whom Wilson and Finn had become acquainted with through Gardocki, formerly of Bush. The band's purpose was to steal audience from the area's "real" glam bands by performing very silly material. The Dum Dums consisted of Bob Hnilo and Von Lono, who would later become part of the "Stoner Ave. crew", as well as people known as Sanford and Lance. Wilson, Finn, and Sharp would frequently come on stage, playing roles such as Wilson and Sharp's "fat men" characters, where they would come on stage wearing clothes stuffed with pillows. After the band lost two members, Wilson and Finn were asked to fill in as their drummer and bassist respectively, where they would play several shows from the summer of 1991 to the summer of 1992. No demos were recorded with Wilson and Finn, although a demo tape was recorded before they joined, and at least one show with the two was videotaped.
| |||
==== United Dirt, late 1990-early 1991 ====
This was a side project of the Dum Dums, which included Wilson and Finn alongside most members of the Dum Dums, and which might have led to the two eventually joining the Dum Dums. United Dirt's music was very silly, offensive, and heavy, and featured both Lono and Wilson playing drums at the same time. The group's only performance was in late 1990 as an encore to the Dum Dums. Around the same time, a practice tape was recorded, which is now lost. A demo was also recorded and still exists, which was recorded with a drum machine.
Some known United Dirt songs out of the 6 "cohesive" ones include:
*Master of the Long Boats
*Mary, **** of Bethlehem
*Pope John Paul, Suck My Dick
{{Karlification box|United Dirt was a Dum Dums side project, that included most members of the Dum-Dums, plus both Pat Wilson and Pat Finn mixed in. This may have laid the groundwork towards the two Pat's later participation in the Dum Dums.
The entire thing was a huge joke. The songs were all extremely foul mouthed death metal, with little musical structure, and were (if one had a broad sense of humor) unbeleivably funny. Both Pat Wilson, and Vaughn, (the Dum Dums drummer ) played drums at the same time. Bob Hnilo and somebody else screeched out the horrendously offensive lyrics.
The group appeared on stage once, as an "encore " to the Dum Dums, in late 1990. This was recorded. Track list unknown.
Also, a "practice/rehersal" was recorded, about the same time. (this may have come about due to Bush and the Dum Dums sharing a rehersal space)
All in all there were about 6 cohesive songs. some known titles are...(edited for explicit content)
Master of the Long Boats
Mary, **** of Bethlehem
Pope John Paul, **** my ****
The practice tape has gone missing. What is intact is a "demo tape", recorded with a drum machine. The demo doesnt have the magic of the 'live' performance, but its still pretty funny.
If you are familiar with the outrageous work of bands like Exodus and Venom, you might get the idea. United Dirt was a sort of Venom/Napalm Death/Exodus style Tenacious D thing, years before it was ready to be unleashed on the public.|Weezer Recording History, Page 2}}
