In a video for MTV, Cuomo discussed the song, saying "It's one of my favorite songs I ever wrote." Said Cuomo, "He came up with a few ideas for it for himself, took the melody in a different place, suggested some lyric changes, and before you knew it, I was writing a song with Adam Lambert!" Cuomo said of Lambert's voice, "It's exactly the kind of voice that I convince myself I have, on my best day, but of course I'm nowhere near that amazing," The song was [[Hurley demos|later considered]]—at least briefly—for inclusion on Weezer's follow-up to ''Raditude'', ''[[Hurley]]'', though it did not make the cut.

Musician and songwriter [[Greg Wells]] is also a credited writer on the song. Wells would go on to collaborate with Cuomo on the [[2010]] Weezer song "[[Where's My Sex?]]."
