Much of the information on the site (particularly the pages dedicated to EWBAITE) were collected from fans invited to "listening parties" (LPs), where-in Karl Koch would play in-progress demos and track lists. With the release of Rivers Cuomo series of Alone digital compilations in 2020, some of the information on the site has been found to either be false or heavily speculative, although, on the contrary, the majority of the information could be easily verified and found to be true. The unknown nature of what exactly was speculative or true continues to make ExceptYouDie a controversial source within the fandom.
