Iness was a musical | Iness was a short-lived musical collaboration between Pat Finn, Karl Koch, and Mike Cannamela. Brendan Finn (Pat Finn's brother) also contributed infrequently. The group emerged from a spontaneous recording session that occurred during downtime between Weezer tours in September 1994. By early 1995, it had dissolved.

In September 1994, Pat Finn was looking to develop new music following the dissolution of Winkler. Mike Cannamela, another former Winkler member, expressed interest in forming a new band with Finn. Both musicians were in Buffalo, NY — where Finn had recently wed his first wife — when Karl Koch returned home from Weezer headlining fall 1994 tour. A "spontaneous jam session" between the three friends occurred in Finn's father's basement, marking the formation of their loose collaboration. The name "Iness" came from a string of cut-off text on a cassette tape the group recorded over.
In all, three sessions worth of music were recorded by the group as Iness — joined in some instances by Finn's brother Brendan — at different locations. The last Iness songs were recorded in March 1995, at which point the group's activity ceased. Finn and Cannamela continued recording demos together in Brooklyn, NY over the next three years, developing some material Finn would later use in Organic Mechanic. Koch again collaborated with Finn and his brother Brendan in March 1998 as the Melvin Jones Total Soul Attack Orchestra.
