"Cold Dark World" is based on a bass riff of [[Scott Shriner]]'s that he used as a warm-up exercise.  When the other members of [[Weezer]] heard the riff, they expressed interest in it, and the band began to hash out an arrangement.  [[Rivers Cuomo]] realized he had some lyrics that would go perfectly with the music, and the co-written song between Shriner and Cuomo was born, with the former singing lead vocals.  Cuomo's lyrics were originally intended for a song with a brighter mood, but with Shriner's music and lead vocal, the end result was a creepier, dark feel.

A mix of the song with Cuomo's lead vocals was released in October 2009 thru Itunes as part of the "[[Raditude]] Club".
