"Colorado" is a single by The Rentals released on September 27, 2008 as a precursor to Songs About Time.
"Ooh" is the first track from "Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo". It was previously unheard before the album's release.

"Colorado" was a single-only release, meaning it is not featured on any of The Rentals' albums. Like many other songs in the band's discography, the song features extensive use of synthesizers and female vocal harmony. This was the first release by the band to include vocalist Jamie Blake. The song's intro is a collage of strings and synthesizer. The band attempted many nontraditional methods of recording for this song, some of which include the drum beats programmed into a keyboard and drumming with drum sticks on the floor of the studio.
The inspiration for "Ooh" came when Rivers Cuomo went to the Philharmonic’s performance of Mahler's third symphony sometime in 1992. Cuomo reported that his "mind was blown." After seeing the performance, he "resolved to incorporate the more complex arrangements and countermelodies of classical music in [his] rock songs." Said Cuomo, "So I wrote this little vocal piece as an exercise. It's a rip-off of Smetan's Moldau but what can you do."

"A few words about Colorado from Matt & The Rentals" was posted by The Rentals on their MySpace about "Colorado." It describes how the song was written, recorded, and chosen for release.
On the recording, Cuomo's fingers can faintly be heard snapping. This was done to serve as a metronome and keep his vocal takes "somewhat in line."
