...Band rehearsals have just wrapped up after many weeks of hard work, sorting out the songs and the gameplan for the upcoming shows in Japan and the USA. Last Thursday, a very small audience was let into the studio to watch a sneak preview of the band running thru their set, rough n' ready style. This was the first full electric weezer show of any sort in nearly 3 years, and the set was loaded with suprises and classics alike. Come on down to a show near you, folks, you will like what you see and hear!
People - feeling creative? Grab a video camera, or a digicam, or a Flip, or a cell phone with video, or whatever, because we got a job for you.

...Red Album DELUXE VINYL. Folks, the Red Album Deluxe Edition has now been pressed as a strictly limited 180g 2xLP audiophile set, with the full deluxe liner notes and photos. This set was crafted (and I do mean crafted, one piece at a time), starting with the mastering, done by Kevin Gray at AcousTech Mastering. The vinyl pressing was done at the legendary RTI facility, where true artisans are at work. The album cover and inner sleeves printing were made at Stoughton Printing, and the center labels were printed by G&M Graphics.
The Weezer 2008 North American Troublemaker Tour (thats what I'm calling it for now anyway) will, like most big tours, have a fancy lighting and visual aspect. But unlike with most tours, YOU can contribute to this one!

You can be sure that this edition of the Red Album is the definitive one, and will look and sound amazing! The finished LPs are en route now, and I believe they will be featured in the (coming soon) all new weezer online store, as well as select retail outlets. They may be a tour item as well, haven't heard for sure yet. What Weezer's lighting designer is looking for are short video clips, between 5 and 30 seconds long, that YOU create. But we cant use just anything. Consider these guidelines:

...The Winner of the Dance Jam Pork N' Beans Signature Dance Contest will be announced very soon. If you havent seen the many crazy submissions, go [http://dancejam.com/promotions/weezer/videos here and check them out!]
1. Look for colorful, textural, simple, artistic things - interesting visuals - NOT a "story" or "message". For example, dont film the dog running around, rather, film a close up of his fur or the slobber drooling from his mouth. Good things to shoot might be a graffiti wall, the pavement flying by as you go down the street, a waterfall, fire, etc. If it does have people in it, go for artistic, abstract, and/or weird.

...SoCal Be warned! Weezer is doing a pirate takeover of 106.7 KROQ-FM very soon! Hear weird songs that KROQ never plays but weezer likes! Hear bad jokes! Hear good ones too!
2. Yes, animation is fine and encouraged! the more colorful and textural/abstract, the better.

...Special tour note! Brian's other band [http://www.myspace.com/therelationship The Relationship] has been added to the lineup of the 3 California shows on the upcoming tour. San Jose, Los Angeles and San Diego will all have Brian pulling double duty as opener in The Relationship and headliner in Weezer.
3. Don't have a "intro" or an "ending" - these clips should be "loop-able". No text please!

...Speaking of Red Albums, the [http://www.universal-music.co.jp/u-pop/artist/weezer/uicf9057.html Deluxe Japanese Red Album CD] version comes out in Japan tomorrow (9/3). This edition includes the expanded Deluxe tracklist plus 3 additional tracks including the exclusive Japanese B-Side "Meri-Kuri" (featuring Rivers singing in Japanese), as well as a bonus all-region DVD that has a bunch of cool stuff on it. Remember the talk of a live Weezer DVD a few years ago? Well, for some reason that plan went belly-up, but the footage was saved, and now 7 tracks from those late 2005 shows in Japan will be available on this bonus DVD. Also there will be behind the scenes stuff from that tour (breifly and mysteriously previewed on YouTube some months ago), an Electronic Press Kit (interview and song by song commentary for the Red Album), and the Pork And Beans video in its first(?) official physical release. Yes, the Japanese always seem to get the good stuff. But in todays global society, the good stuff gets around!
3. NO COPYWRITTEN MATERIAL - no "mash-ups", no "recycled" footage, no using anything you can buy on a cd, dvd, or see in a videogame, movie theater or on tv. For that matter, stay clear of youtube clips - try and come up with something original that only you can capture. Have fun with it!

4. Note that we will not be using the audio (sound) of your clip, so making them silent is ok, or if there is dialogue or music or sounds in your clip, know that it wont end up in the final product if we pick your clip.

5. submit as many clips as you like.

6. Try and keep clip file size to 100MB or less - if we like your clip, we will be asking you to sendspace it (or similar) to me (Karl), and those sites usually have a 100MB limit on file size unless you have a premium membership.

HOW TO SUBMIT A CLIP:

Go to [http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=weezer Weezer's YouTube page] and then to the [http://www.youtube.com/group/weezerfans "WeezerFans"/"Weezer Tour Imagery" Group], and upload your video to that group. We'll be watching!

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU SUBMIT A CLIP?

If the lighting designer likes your clip, we will need to get in touch with you to get the original video clip file directly from you (via sendspace or similar filesharing sites), so SAVE that original (.avi or .mov format preferred but not required), and keep them 100MB or smaller unless you have a premium acct etc. The list of clips we want will appear on Weezer.com (and a myspace bulletin and in a weezer mailing list email), and if youre on the list, you'll need to email me (Karl) with a sendspace link to your original clip. So stay tuned to see who's gonna have their footage used in the tour!

Have fun!
