Overview
Overview
Originally known as "Gitchoo", the song was intended for Songs from the Black Hole. In the song, Jonas presumably feels stung by Laurel who appears to have rejected him, possibly as a consequence of the events in "She's Had a Girl" and/or "Now I Finally See".
"Getchoo" was originally written by Rivers Cuomo in January of 1994, between the recording and release of The Blue Album. The song was played live while the band was touring in support of The Blue Album. Later, in 1995, Cuomo considered the song for (ultimately unfinished) "rock-opera" concept album Songs from the Black Hole. The song appeared on track lists and early drafts for that concept, before being dropped from later lists. While the Black Hole concept was eventually scrapped, "Getchoo" was worked on by the band and the album concept eventually morphed into Pinkerton, wherein "Getchoo" appears as the second track.

The 1995 Ft. Apache demo of this song features slightly different lyrics to those on the final Pinkerton version that better fit the SFTBH mold. "What I did to her, you've done to me" seems to refer to Jonas ditching Maria for Laurel, only to end up empty-handed himself.
In 2005, the band played the song with Brian Bell on lead vocals.

"Getchoo" was performed live at many Blue Album tour shows, and during the band's 2005 tour, it was played with Brian Bell on lead vocals.

An rough in-studio recording of the song appeared on the second disc of the Deluxe Edition of Pinkerton in 2010, listed as "Getchoo (Tracking Rough)".
