The song was demoed several times over the next several months. The song was included with the "[[The Black Album (2001)|Black album]]" sets of demos recorded at [[Steakhouse Demos|Steakhouse Studios]] and [[Cello Demos|Cello Studios]]. The song made its live debut during a performance by the band for the HBO show ''Reverb'' (wherein the band performed as "[[Goat Punishment]]") at The Knitting Factory in Hollywood, though the performance of "The Dawn" did not air. The song continued to be performed during the [[Midget Tour|Hyper-Extended Midget Tour]] and was included in most setlists throughout the remainder of the year, frequently as the opening song. [[Karl Koch]] uploaded soundboard recordings of some of these performances to [[Weezer.com]].
