"It's Time to Come Home" is a song written by Matt Sharp and later recorded by his band the Rentals. It first appeared as the first track on Chapter Two: It's Time to Come Home, the second mini album of the Songs About Time multimedia project. A reworked version of the song also appeared, a few years later, as the first track on the band's third studio album, Lost in Alphaville.

Overview
"It's Time to Come Home" is known to have been written as early as summer of 2003 . Matt Sharp is known to have performed the song live during one of his solo concerts in July of that year, commenting that the song had been recorded about a month earlier, including a piano section written by Greg Brown. The song was revisited in 2009 for the multimedia project Songs About Time, appearing on the project's second mini-album, also titled It's Time to Come Home.
The song was reworked once more for the Rentals' third proper studio album, Lost in Alphaville, released in 2014. This version features a new bridge with additional lyrics ("Innocence lost / somewhere in Alphaville...").

<poem>
What s strange day
What a strange day
Put my head out the doorway
Put your head out the doorway
into the streets where the kids play
Into the streets where the kids play
a game you used to know
A game you used to know

As the day sets
As the day sets
into the sky - bottle rockets
Into the sky, bottle rockets
Mothers are calling
Mothers are calling
it's time to come home
It's time to come home

Oh, oh, oh, it's time to come home
Oh, oh, oh,
It's time to come home

Now it's nightfall
Now it's nightfall
you've got plans for nothing at all
You've got plans for nothing at all
Who knows who might call
Well, who knows who might call?
but then where would you go
But then where would you go?

Go into the night life
Go into the night life
Into the dim lights
Into the dim lights
Look for someone who
Look for someone who
would tell you to come on home
Would tell you to come on home

Oh, oh, oh,
It's time to come home

Oh, oh, oh, it's time to come home
Innocence lost
Somewhere in Alphaville
Inside a dream you are beside me still
When I awake
The dream is over
You're gone, gone, gone

What a strange time
What a strange time
as you flip on your house lights
As you flip on your house lights
and you realize
And you realize
there's no one at home
There's no one at home
