"Piece Of The Pie" was first mentioned by Rivers in 2005 at a show, saying they'd play the song but it would be heavily passed around online before it was released. The song was also later mentioned by Rivers in December of that year during an interview, as seen in the Across the Sea: Live in Japan documentary/live concert, when asked what his favorite Weezer song was.
"Piece of the Pie" was recorded by Cuomo for Deliverance at Hand!, a compilation of demos written in contention for what would eventually become The Red Album. The song was first mentioned by Cuomo to fans in 2005 at a Weezer concert, saying they'd play the song but it would be heavily passed around online before it was released Citation needed. The song was also later mentioned by Cuomo in December of that year during a Q&A session in Japan, wherein a Japanese fan asked each band member what their favorite Weezer song was, to which Cuomo replied, "I like a new song called 'Piece of the Pie'." The Q&A was filmed for the live concert/documentary Across the Sea: Live in Japan.

It was partially heard by fans for the first time as a live acoustic rendition in a USTREAM broadcast before the 08/27/11 Indio, California show. Cuomo seems to not be able to recall sections of the song and most of the lyrics. A recording of the song was also played by Karl to fans at a fan meetup in June 2018, of which a bootleg recording has since surfaced.

Cuomo's original demo was played by Karl Koch to fans at a fan meetup in June 2018, from which a partial, secondhand recording was made and later shared among fans.
