"New Joint was first demoed by [[Rivers Cuomo]] at some point in [[1999]]. Two of Cuomo's demos from 1999 were released in 2020 as part of the ''[[Alone VI: The Black Room]]'' bundle.

 

The song was later demoed twice by Weezer at Cuomo's home studio in October of [[2000]]. The song was likely attempted  again in November (although the Recording History erroneously lists the song's alternate title as "[[Hammer Time]]"), before the song was abandoned by the band. The track was never officially released, but a recording circulates online among fans.

Another demo was recorded by Cuomo, likely in November of 2008. This version features new lyrics and a new chorus. Two different mixes of this version were temporarily released on the 2020 ''[[Alone VII: The Green Years]]'' bundle, one with vocals (noted as being recorded on November 15) and one without. Despite being released in the bundle on December 15 of 2020, both of these files were removed a day later, likely due to producer and songwriter Mike Elizondo's writing credit in the file's tags.
