How The Stole Christmas.jpg "Silent Night" is a classic Christmas carol composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber with lyrics by Joseph Mohr. The song was covered by The Rentals in 1995 for the KROQ holiday compilation How The _____ Stole Christmas. It was then re-released by the band in 2001 as part of their fan-club compilation Excellent Stocking Stuffer.
"The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Hymn)" is the third single and second track from The Red Album. Deciding that he was tired of the typical verse-chorus-verse structure of songwriting, Rivers Cuomo instead decided to write a song using the musical structure of theme and variations, as used in classical music, utilizing different bands and musician styles (Slipknot, Jeff Buckley, Aerosmith, etc.) as the different variations.

The cover is an instrumental based around a lead synthesizer melody. It features Jim Richards on synth, Matt Sharp on drums, and a voice-over advertisement for Return of the Rentals by Rod Cervera.

Weezer would later cover the song in 2008 for the holiday EP Christmas with Weezer.
