Overview
"Private Message" was worked on extensively throughout the sessions for the band's planned fifth album in 2002. It was recorded at various studios beginning as early as February of 2002. "Private Message" was one of the first post-Maladroit Weezer songs to be uploaded to fans, released before Maladroit was even in stores. Later the song was practiced acoustically at S.I.R. Studios in late 2002. It was performed at a secret show at The Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, CA. The song was worked on again beginning in November of 2003, though it did not appear on the resulting album, Make Believe. Weezer guitarist Brian Bell later reworked the song into a demo for his band The Relationship titled Hand to Hold, released on MySpace in April of 2007.
