"It Holds Me Together" was recorded by Cuomo as an 8-track demo, most likely in [[1991]], as part of Cuomo and {{PN|Patrick Wilson}} "[[50 Song Project]]". The [[Recording_History_-_Page_2#December_1991-January_1992:_.22The_50_Song_Project.22|Weezer Recording History]] lists the song as having been a collaboration between Cuomo and Wilson, though recordings of the song have since appeared exclusively on Cuomo's solo compilations. Cuomo performed the song on piano on the demo tape ''[[Rivers's Opera]]'' in December of [[1991]]. Though the song was not heard by fans until [[2020]], a scan of Cuomo's handwritten lyrics were uploaded by Cuomo to [[riverscuomo.com]] in the early 2000s, and "It Holds Me Together" was listed on a spreadsheet by Cuomo titled "[[The 4 and 5 Star Demos of Rivers Cuomo]]" in [[2008]].
