Overview
Overview
The song, when it was still called "Always, Forever" and later "The Strong Ones", was demoed several times by Rivers Cuomo from February to July of 2004 at the S.I.R. rehearsal studio. The final studio version of the song was recorded during the band's second attempt at making Make Believe, at Grandmaster Recorders in Los Angeles, CA. The sessions lasted from July 22 to October 22, 2004. It was one of 12 songs that Cuomo asked to band to only concentrate on, which he felt were the right songs for the album. The song features backing vocals by Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell, Scott Shriner and Karl Koch. Until early 2005, the song was designated to be the second track. The song was later listed as the eleventh track on the March 25, 2005 Amazon.com tracklisting of Make Believe. Ultimately the song was excluded from the final track list for unknown reasons.
"Last Chance" is a reworking of previous demos: "Purple Flowers," "Always, Forever," and "The Strong Ones." It is first known to have been demoed by Rivers Cuomo in July of 2004 at S.I.R. Rehearsal Studios in Los Angeles. "Last Chance" was one of twelve songs that Cuomo instinctively felt was right for the album when the band decided to begin production on Make Believe at Grandmaster Recorders, beginning on July 22, 2004. According to Karl Koch, the song featured a "raucous group backing vocal session" by himself, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell, and Scott Shriner, "intentionally replete with whoops, clapping, goofing around and rambunctious hi-jinks rarely heard in Weezer pro studio recordings." "Last Chance" was completed (sans a final mix) at Grandmaster Recorders as of October 4, even appearing on Amazon.com's store page for Make Believe as late as March of 2005 The songs cut from Make Believe late in development have since been dubbed "the Fallen Soldiers" by Koch.

In a stickam.com chat, Koch played a few short clips of several "Fallen Soldiers" songs, including "Last Chance". Karl Koch named the 11 songs that were finished but not used for Make Believe "The Fallen Soldiers".
In a stickam.com chatDate missing, Koch played a few short clips of several "Fallen Soldiers" songs, including "Last Chance" (see Audio).

<poem>
I don't need to tell you the state that we are in
I don't need to tell you
We all can see the madness and sickness deep within
The state that we are in
Our prospects look depressing, but we can all survive
We all can see the madness
If we come together to keep ourselves alive
And sickness deep within
Our prospects look depressing
But we can all survive
If we come together
To keep ourselves alive

This is our last chance
This is our last chance
This is our last chance
This is our last chance
Don't blow it, this is our last chance
Don't blow it
This is our last chance
So hold on tight
So hold on tight

Some of you have talents, some of you have brains
Some of you have talents
Some are good with people, some at breaking chains
Some of you have brains
We need everybody if we want to live
Some are good with people
Put aside your differences and give what you can give
Some at breaking chains
We need everybody
If we want to live
Put aside your differences
And give what you can give

This is our last chance
This is our last chance
This is our last chance
This is our last chance
Don't blow it, this is our last chance
Don't blow it
This is our last chance
So hold on tight
So hold on tight

I am just a simple boy from the countryside
I am just a simple boy
But desperate times force me to grow up
From the countryside
But desperate times
Force me to grow up
I won't even turn around
I won't even turn around
I'm ready for any challenge that comes my way
I'm ready for any challenge
That comes my way
I know I will meet it
I know I will meet it

I can still remember how each kept to his own
I can still remember
How each kept to his own
We can't afford that luxury anymore
We can't afford that luxury anymore

This is our last chance
This is our last chance
This is our last chance
This is our last chance
Don't blow it, this is our last chance
Don't blow it
This is our last chance
So hold on tight

So hold on tight
So hold on tight
