Biography

In 1997, following the release of Weezer's 1996 album, Pinkerton, Rivers Cuomo began writing droning, minimalist songs as a reaction to Pinkerton's complex chord structures. Mikey Welsh suggested drummer Zeph Courtney for Cuomo's new potential side-project (dubbed "Lovely"). Cuomo first saw Courtney perform as part of a Kyuss cover band, and the three rehearsed as "Lovely" in Cuomo's basement.[1] Courtney played drums at (at least) two of Cuomo's solo concerts in October of 1997, alongside Welsh and Kevin Stevenson.

Courtney played drums on the Juliana Hatfield album Juliana's Pony: Total System Failure, released in 2000.
