2018 was a banner year for Weezer. After touring with the Foo Fighters in a big stadium tour, Weezer ended up on a strange journey involving a fan's request for the band to cover Toto's "Africa" that went viral on social media, which catapulted the band back into the mainstream. Weezer's remake garnered them #1s on two of Billboard's charts - Rock Airplay (their first ever) and Alternative Songs (their first in ten years.) The success of "Africa" also resulted in an entire skit devoted to the Weezer fandom on Saturday Night Live in December, starring Leslie Jones and Matt Damon.

Also of special note, Rivers played several more of his acoustic solo gigs; and in May, Jason Cropper surprised fans as a special guest at the gig in San Francisco.

January

• January 20 - Weezer performs at nib Stadium in Perth, Australia on the Foo Fighters' Concrete and Gold Tour.
• January 23 - Weezer performs at Coopers Stadium in Adelaide, Australia on the Foo Fighters' Concrete and Gold Tour.
• January 25 - Weezer performs at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia as guests on the Foo Fighters' Concrete and Gold Tour.
• January 27 - Weezer performs at ANZ Stadium in Sydney, Australia as guests on the Foo Fighters' Concrete and Gold Tour.
• January 30 - Weezer performs at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on the Foo Fighters' Concrete and Gold Tour. Rivers Cuomo joins the Foo Fighters on stage for a cover of the Kiss song "Detroit Rock City".

February

• February 3 - Weezer opens for the Foo Fighters in Auckland, New Zealand at the Mt Smart Stadium on the Concrete And Gold Tour.
• February 19 - Rivers Cuomo plays an acoustic solo show in Avon, CO at Agave.

March

• March 10 - Rivers Cuomo plays an acoustic solo show in Los Angeles, CA at The Hi Hat.
• March 13 - Weezer plays live at the Firehouse Museum in Los Angeles, CA.
• March 16 - Rivers Cuomo's first solo single, "Medicine For Melancholy", is released.

April

• April 10 - Rivers Cuomo plays an acoustic solo show in Chicago, IL at Beat Kitchen.
• April 15 - Rivers Cuomo plays an acoustic solo set at Adam McKay's (director/writer) birthday party at The Edison in Los Angeles, CA.

May

• May 9 - Rivers Cuomo plays an acoustic solo show in San Francisco, CA at the Bottom of the Hill. Original Weezer founding member Jason Cropper joins Rivers on "In the Garage" and "No One Else".
• May 10 - Weezer plays an acoustic set for KFOG's "Private Concert" in San Francisco, CA.
• May 24 - Weezer releases a cover of Toto's "Rosanna".
• May 29 - Weezer releases a cover of Toto's "Africa".
• May 30 - Rivers Cuomo plays an acoustic solo show in West Hollywood, CA at The Troubadour. Brian Bell joins Rivers on "Endless Bummer" and "You Gave Your Love to Me Softly".

June

• June 11 - Weezer performs live on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Their cover of Toto's "Africa" is played live for the first time.
• June 16 - Weezer plays live at Montebello Rockfest in Montebello, QC, Canada.
• June 22 - Weezer plays live in West Palm Beach, FL at the Coral Sky Amphitheatre on the Summer 2018 Tour with the Pixies.

• September 14 - Weezer headlines Day 1 of Riot Fest 2018 in Chicago. They were called in to replace Blink-182, who couldn't make it due to medical issues.
• September 25 - Weezer plays a secret show at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco.

October

• October 11 - "Can't Knock The Hustle" releases, The Black Album and a second tour with The Pixies is announced.
• October 13 - Brian Bell answers questions as part of Ask Anything for iHeartRadio.

November

• November 11 - Chilly Gonzales releases Other People's Pieces. The album includes "Weezer Medley" and "Damage in Your Heart - Chilly Gonzales Version."
• November 20 - "Zombie Bastards" is released as The Black Album’s second single.

December

• December 12 - Weezer plays live in Philadelphia, PA at the Metropolitan Opera House
• December 15 - The Saturday Night Live Weezer skit, featuring Matt Damon and Leslie Jones, premieres.
• December 21 - Rivers Cuomo's second solo single, "Two Broken Hearts", is released.
