"Alone Again" is the seventh song on that dog.'s fourth album Old LP.
Overview
Band commentary
Anna Waronker: “Alone Again” was written in the first batch of songs I started writing for this album. This song brings back the feeling of some of the very early acoustic songs on the earlier that dog. albums and my venture into more serious writing when I first started. I couldn’t believe there was a chord progression that I hadn’t used before within the few chords I have to choose from with my weird guitar tuning. The combination of the tuning and complicated spareness with lush strings and such honest conversational lyrics is such a unique sound and so "that dog."

Lyrics
Broken hearted
Finish what you've started
Now I'm alone again
Taken for granted
Mistaken as something romantic
And I'm alone again
And I'll never be the same
And only have myself to blame
And I'll know better than to stay
And play the game
Unless I want to remain
Alone again
If only
You'd listen
You'd find out just what you'd be missing
I tried to make amends
And I've cried too much to pretend
And I'll thank you in the end
