Overview
The song "Blue Dream" was first revealed to be a track for Van Weezer in an article from the June 2020 issue of the magazine Guitar Player. In the article, it was stated that the song featured a 'note-for-note cribbing of Randy Rhoads' iconic riff from Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train"'
On May 7, 2020, a press release announced that Weezer would be guest-starring in an episode of the animated sitcom The Simpsons airing on May 10 and that the debut of "Blue Dream" would be featured[1]. An instrumental segment of the song could be heard briefly during a chase sequence[2].
On August 21, 2020, Cuomo confirmed "Blue Dream" to be a reworking of the 2011 demo "Ballad of the Briny", from his aborted "Sea Opera" concept album after user “drewski” brought up how the snippet of Briny from Rivers’ YouTube sounded similar to the Blue Dream snippet off the Simpson’s, on the Riverchat chatroom hosted on his personal website[3].
