THE RE-THREADING OF WEEZER: BAND HITS THE ROAD WITH NO DOUBT: PINKERTON'S "PINK TRIANGLE" IS NEXT TRACK RELEASED TO RADIO

LOS ANGELES, May 6, 1997 -- Naysayers step aside -- Weezer is back. The band that had more than a few people guessing as to their future a few months ago are re-emerging from a period of self-imposed exile. The "new and improved" Weezer will debut at a May 19 outdoor show for Boston's WFNX, performing a set on Lansdowne Street, which will be closed to traffic for the event.

After the Boston gig, Weezer heads west to begin a tour opening for No Doubt. Their first show with the band is May 24 at the Gorge in Washington state. The No Doubt dates - at venues with capacities of up to 27,000 seats - will keep Weezer on the road through the beginning of July (please see attached venues and dates). In conjunction with the tour, they will also release a third radio track from their latest album,

Pinkerton

(DGC Records). The song, "Pink Triangle," has been remixed by Tom Lord-Alge.

Weezer's decidedly low profile over the winter has had many people wondering ig there was indeed a band at all. When last heard from, Weezer was finishing up a tour in late January amid rumors of inner-band turmoil. In February, singer-songwriter-guitarist Rivers Cuomo started another semester of college, which had been his plan all along. The rest of Weezer thus returned to pursuits. Bassist Matt Sharp began work on the next album from his band, the Rentals, in London. Drummer Pat Wilson and guitar Brian Bell each headed home to work on projects with their own bands, Special Goodness and Space Twins, respectively.

After a few months of much needed downtime, the members of Weezer reemerged in Boston in early April and began rehearsing. Communiqués from the field indicate band chemistry has never been better, and spirits are high regarding the upcoming tour and unveiling of "Pink Triangle". The notoriously press-shy Cuomo has even decided to do interviews.

Pinkerton, Weezer's self-produced second album was released Sept. 24, 1996.
