...MB '05 Tour: Day 93: Mexico City, Mexico - TV, Radio, Press
Today the band did a press conference at the hotel, which started with an insane photo shoot with a ton of photographers snapping away like mad for 5 minutes straight. Then we walked thru some service corridors to the press conference room, where reporters from all sorts of publications asked many questions, some in Spanish, some in English. Fortunately the band had a great translator. Then we cruised thru the chaotic streets to the Hard Rock Cafe, where the band did a special show taping for Telehit, the Mexican Mtv style station. They fielded questions from the audience (100 lucky contest winners), were interviewed by VJ Claudio, performed 'Hash Pipe', 'Beverly Hills', 'Island' and 'Drugs', and watched some of their videos on the big screen with the audience, including the Mexican TV premiere of the (USA) "We Are All On Drugs" video (regular 'no censorship' version). Then we returned to the hotel for a short break before heading back out to a different part of town for an on air interview with Reactor FM radio, which included the band choosing some songs to play. They chose Soundgarden's "Loud Love", Elliott Smiths "Ballad Of Big Nothing", and The Stone Roses' "I Wanna Be Adored", and talked about 'Make Believe' and other topics. Then we went to dinner with the local Universal Music people, who are really nice and fun to hang with. All in all it was a really successful day of promoting weezer in Mexico for the very first time, and we met a lot of great fans and people at the radio station.

...Weezer mailing list members got the presale info yesterday for the just announced Long Beach CA Foozer show, happening on Oct 22. There is NO presale for Santa Barbara show, it just goes on sale Saturday, 9/24 at 11:00 AM. Ticketmaster link here.

...The craziness that is 'Beverly Hills': Quietly, Beverly Hills has continued to creep up the charts, and remains a significant force on the radio fully 25 weeks on! Its at #9 on the Pop 100 Airplay chart, meaning some very big stations continue to play the hell out of it, and it jumped to #12 on the Hot 100, meaning its the 12th biggest song in the USA, hands down! This is pretty historical territory for Weezer, who have only just flirted with the "big boy" single charts a few times in the past, and never ever even came close to the top 20 before. Meanwhile, BH is still on the modern rock chart at #16 (where new kid "Drugs" is #10), and continues to be a top 10 iTunes download. The BH video has crept up the VH1 top 20 Countdown and is now near the top at #4. Meanwhile the "We Are All On Drugs" video has risen to #19 on the MuchMusic Countdown this week.

...Here's a new interview with Rivers (in Spanish) at El Universal (Mexico).

...Into the halls o' tradition: "weezer" was an answer on this past week's New York Times crossword puzzle. The clue for 44 down was: "1995 Buddy Holly Performer".
