Appearances

Overview

"Love Explosion", under its original title, "Do You Want Me to Stay?", is first known to have been demoed by the band during sessions at Sage & Sound Studios in Hollywood from August 29 to September 8, 2001. The song was thereafter performed live at Weezer concerts beginning on September 12 and remaining in live set lists through November. Rough mixes of the song were recorded at Steakhouse Studios throughout late October of that year. The band (under the name "Goat Punishment") also performed the song at a concert at The Knitting Factory in Los Angeles, which was filmed for the HBO television series Reverb (though the song was broadcast). The song continued to be demoed during sessions at Cello Studios in early November, and was included on a set of demos from this period jokingly referred to by the band as "The Black Album". The song is not known to have been attempted again until the following January, during the Maladroit sessions at Cello Studios, where it was re-titled "Love Explosion". The song, during these sessions, initially featured wholly rewritten lyrics and was among over 100 in-progress Maladroit demos released to fans on weezer.com, with the final demo released having been recorded January 12th. The song was not heard by fans again until its appearance on the final album, where it featured again-revised lyrics more similar to that of the initial "Sage & Sound" demo.

In a fan-interview with Karl Koch in 2009, Koch stated that Weezer drummer Pat Wilson considered "Love Explosion" to be the worst Weezer song, to which Koch added, "I think [I'm] with him on that."

Lyrics

Take a listen around you
All the people that crowd around in your house
They've been wanting to kill you in your sleep
Take a load off and bow down
To the others; they love to call you their names
They've been wanting to kill you in your sleep

And all the bull that people sling (Love is an ocean)
It doesn't matter what they sing (Love explosion)

So jump out, jump out
Get your groove on
This one is for you
So come on
Get out your house, girl
And give me a kiss

And all the bull that people sling (Love is an ocean)
It doesn't matter what they sing (Love explosion)

So jump out, jump out
Get your groove on
This one is for you
So come on
Get out your house, girl
And give me a kiss

Take a load off and bow down
To the others; they love to call you their names
They love to call you their names
They love to call you their names

Take a listen around you
All the people that crowd around in your house
They've been wanting to kill you in your sleep
Take a listen around you
All the people that love to call you their names
They've been wanting to kill you in your sleep

And all the games that people play
It does not matter what they say

So jump back, jump back
Do you want me?
I don't believe
That you need me
Come out, come on
Do you want me to stay?
Hey

And all the games that people play
It does not matter what they say

So jump back, jump back
Do you want me?
I don't believe
That you need me
Come on, come on
Do you want me to stay?
Yeah

Take a listen around you
All the people that crowd around in your house
That crowd around in your house
That crowd around in your house
That crowd around in your house

Little girlie, I'm happy
'Cause you came out and saw the things that I see
Now we'll get on to pleasure each other, yeah
Perpetrator of good vibes
In a world where nobody's kind to themselves
Now I've found you, we'll both give up the love

And all the bull that people sling, yeah
Falls beneath the songs we sing

So jump out, jump out
Get your groove on
This song is for you
So come on
Get out the house, girl
And give me a kiss
Yes

And all the bull that people sling, yeah
Falls beneath the songs we sing

So jump out, jump out
Get your groove on
This song is for you
So come on
Get out the house, girl
And give me a kiss
Yes

Perpetrator of good vibes
In a world where
Nobody's kind to themselves
Nobody's kind to themselves
Nobody's kind to themselves

Yeah
