Appearances

Overview

Rivers Cuomo first demoed "Lullaby" to an Olympus handheld recorder,[1] possibly around spring of 2002.[2] Cuomo released these demos as part of the digital demo compilation Alone VIII: The Maladroit Years in 2020. Weezer demoed the song in June/July of 2002 at Sunset Sound Recorders in Los Angeles during early recording sessions for the band's planned follow-up to Maladroit. Weezer added additional overdubs on July 16 during a session at The Lodge Recording Studios in Indianapolis. MP3 demos from these sessions were released on weezer.com shortly thereafter.

Lyrics

Rivers Cuomo demo (ver. 2)

No need for watchful waiting
His cells are replicating
Give him your breast then leave him all alone
He needs a place that's free from
Responsibility, so
Give him a kiss then leave him all alone

Oh, oh

He needs a place that's free from
Responsibility, so
Give him a kiss then leave him all alone

Rivers Cuomo demo (ver. 3)

He needs a place that's free from
Responsibility so
Give him your best then leave that boy alone

Desist your watchful waiting
His cells are replicating
He's growing strong, so leave that boy alone

Oh, oh

There is a storm cloud brewing
He needs the formula
He needs to be still, so leave that boy alone

Oh, oh

Rivers Cuomo demo (ver. 4)

Get up and leave the baby
You're going to drive him crazy
He needs his rest, so leave that boy alone
He has a task before him
And, for this, he needs snoring
Sweet solitude for ages at a time

Ahh, ahh

If you release your embrace
He'll try to solve your problems
He'll build that house in which we all can live
But if you suffocate him
And drown him with affection
He'll never reach the place we need to be

Ahh, ahh

But if you suffocate him
And drown him with affection
He'll never reach the place we need to be
The place we need to be
The place we need to be

Ahh, ahh

Weezer demo

Get up and leave the baby
You're going to drive him crazy
And there's a bed just in the other room
He has a task before him
And, for this, he needs snoring
Sweet solitude for ages at a time

It's not that he don't love you
You are his mommy dearest
But, in the nighttime, he only needs himself
Go entertain the neighbors
Leave him to cogitate
And in the morning you'll leave a glass of milk

Ahh, ahh

It's not that he don't love you
You are his mommy dearest
But, in the nighttime, he only needs himself
Go entertain the neighbors
Leave him to cogitate
And in the morning you'll leave a glass of milk

Ahh, ahh

It's not that he don't love you
You are his mommy dearest
But, in the nighttime, he only needs himself
He only needs himself, he only needs himself
He only needs himself

Ahh, ahh
