MTV (an initialism of Music Television) is is an American cable channel that launched on August 1, 1981. Though its influence has waned considerably since the first decade of the 2000's, its music video programming has played a significant role in marketing Weezer's music since the band's early days on Geffen Records.

Relation to Weezer
The channel is often credited with giving Weezer its first national exposure, particularly via their heavy promotion of the music videos for "Undone - The Sweater Song," "Buddy Holly," and "Say It Ain't So." "Buddy Holly," for example, won four awards at the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards, including prizes for Breakthrough Video and Best Alternative Video. Conversely, the network showed comparatively tepid support to the "El Scorcho" video, with Karl Koch saying the video received "small play time" aside from 120 Minutes.[1]
