Overview
Cuomo announced the song via Instagram[1] on March 15, 2018. The song was produced in Ableton by the band AJR, who had recently featured Cuomo on one of their songs, "Sober Up." The song is not part of any larger project. Cuomo said in 2017 of the Alone albums, "It’s kind of embarrassing. If you search for my name on Spotify, that’s what comes up. I should put out something more pro also so people don’t think that’s all I do."[2] The song was also released around the time of Cuomo’s brief solo acoustic tour, during which he performed the song at every show.
Demos of "Medicine for Melancholy" (under the prior title of "Friday Feeling") were released in 2021 as part of the digital compilation Alone XIII: The Pacific Daydream Black Years.
