Overview
"Mykel and Carli" is a reworking of an earlier Rivers Cuomo demo titled "Please Pick Up the Phone," written in February of 1993. Cuomo originally lifted the chords from the song "Everybody Plays the Fool," by The Main Ingredient.[1]
The Allan sisters revealed the story of the song's lyrics to fans at an official fan club gathering in the summer of 1996 at the Pasadena, California home of two fans.[2] Reportedly, the sisters received a brief call from Cuomo asking them what high school they went to. The sisters replied that they went to several different ones. He asked them to pick one, so they decided to mention Wilson High (located in Hacienda Heights, California). "Great", Cuomo said, before abruptly hanging up the phone. "Okay, that was weird", they thought, but let it go. Minutes later, he called back, asking them to name a street they once lived on. "Eagle Court" was the reply. Another "thanks", and dial tone. On it went for some time, with the sisters increasingly curious. Days later, Mykel and Carli were invited to a Weezer concert in Hollywood, which the band stressed that the sisters needed to attend. During the set, the band debuted the song "Mykel and Carli" in honor of the band's biggest fans. There was reportedly not a dry eye among the sisters.[citation needed]
When the band began recording for The Blue Album at Electric Lady Studios, "Mykel and Carli" was recorded, but ultimately abandoned due to time constraints.[3] A recording from these sessions was released as a bonus track on the iTunes and vinyl releases of the compilation album Death to False Metal in 2010. The band later recorded the song in the summer of 1994 (along with "Susanne" and "My Evaline") in a session with engineer Paul du Gré for the single release of "Undone - The Sweater Song".
Mykel, Carli, and sister Trysta Allan passed away in a car accident in July of 1997. At a tribute and benefit concert on August 15, 1997, Rivers Cuomo performed a solo rendition of the song "Mykel and Carli." Weezer would not perform the song live again until the Weezer Cruise on January 20, 2012.
Weezer's tribute was neither the first nor last tribute to the sisters. The Los Angeles-based band Black Market Flowers, who also performed at the August 15 tribute concert, also wrote a song titled "Mykel and Carli" prior to Weezer's song. In 1997, the compilation album Hear You Me! A Tribute to Mykel and Carli was released by Vast Records. The Allan sisters also inspired the song "Hear You Me" by Jimmy Eat World, released on the band's album Bleed American in 2001.

Lyrics
Back in Wilson High
I had two best friends
They lived down the block
Where Eagle Ct. bends
One she cared for my bones
Fed me ice-cream cones
One she cared for my happiness
And wouldn't leave me alone
Back in Wilson High
Said I had these two best friends
'Til the school bus came
And took my friends away
Now I'm left alone at home
To sit and think all day
Hear you me, Mykel
Hear you me, Carli
They gave me a hat
The hat was awful rad
Wore it everyday
Made my teacher mad
She tore it off my head
Now my head's well-read
My head gets cold at night sometimes
But I can't be misled
Hear you me, Mykel
Hear you me, Carli
She tore it off my head
Now my head's well-read
My head gets cold at night sometimes
But I can't be misled
Back in Wilson High
I had two best friends
They lived down the block
Where Eagle Ct. bends
'Til the school bus came
And took my friends away
Now I'm left alone at home
To sit and think all day
Hear you me, Mykel
Hear you me, Carli
Oh-oh-no, Mykel
Oh-oh-no, Carli
