"New Joint" (previously titled "Roommate") is a song demoed by Weezer as a potential track for the band's third album.

Appearances

Overview

"New Joint was first demoed by Rivers Cuomo at some point in 1999. Two of Cuomo's demos from 1999 were released in 2020 as part of the Alone VI: The Black Room bundle.

The song was later demoed twice by Weezer at Cuomo's home studio in October of 2000. The song was likely attempted again in November (although the Recording History erroneously lists the song's alternate title as "Hammer Time"), before the song was abandoned by the band. The track was never officially released, but a recording circulates online among fans.

Another demo was recorded by Cuomo, likely in November of 2008 (based on the filename and "Date modified" field in the file metadata.) This version features new lyrics and a new chorus. Two different mixes of this version were temporarily released on the 2020 Alone VII: The Green Years bundle, one with vocals (noted as being recorded on November 15) and one without. These versions, released on December 15, 2020, both of these files were removed a day later, likely due to producer and songwriter Mike Elizondo's writing credit in the file's tags.

Lyrics

1999/2000 version

Hey, get off my back
What’s up with you
Riding my crack
Like such an egomaniac?
To the point
I got a new joint

Hey, try calming down
Get both your feet
Back on the ground
Maybe you need another town
And viewpoint
I got a new joint

Now, yeah
Now, yeah
Goodbye

Lose the attitude
You think it’s tough
I think it’s rude
I caught you snacking on my food
To the point
I got a new joint

Now, yeah
Now, yeah
Goodbye

Hey, try calming down
Get both your feet
Back on the ground
Maybe you need another town
And viewpoint
I got a new joint

2008 version

Hey, get off my back
What’s up with you
Riding my crack?
You're such an egomaniac
To the point
I got a new joint

Hey, try calming down
Get both your feet
Back on the ground
Maybe you need another town
And viewpoint
I got a new joint

Hey, brother, I hope you enjoy yourself
I'll never see you again, my friend
Goodbye, and don't let the door
Hit your ass on the way to your car

Yo, I never heard
Another tale
Quite as absurd
You need to fly up like a bird
In the air
Because I don't care

Hey, I'm really tired
Your frontal lobe
Has come unwired
The hemispheres are fully fired
It is time
To power you down

Hey, brother, I hope you enjoy yourself
I'll never see you again, my friend
Goodbye, and don't let the door
Hit your ass on the way to your car

And if you come back crawling on your knees
I might be hiding in the shower

Hey, get off my back
What’s up with you
Riding my crack?
You're such an egomaniac
To the point
I got a new joint

Hey, brother, I hope you enjoy yourself
I'll never see you again, my friend
Goodbye, and don't let the door
Hit your ass on the way to your car
