Appearances

Overview

"Run Over by a Truck" is first known to have been demoed in 2007, as part of Deliverance at Hand!, a CD-R of song demos recorded by Rivers Cuomo for consideration for what would eventually become the band's sixth album (The Red Album). The song's existence became known to fans the following year, when it was listed on a spreadsheet Cuomo assembled documenting what he considered to be his "4 and 5-star demos." Though "Run Over by a Truck" did not make the cut for Red, it was revisited for the band's follow-up album, Raditude.

"Run Over by a Truck" was produced by Jacknife Lee. Weezer initially recorded the songs for Raditude with Lee as producer from early November of 2008 through early January of 2009,[1] before eventually bringing in additional producers. A slightly earlier mix of "Run Over by a Truck" leaked in 2017. Cuomo's initial demos of the song were released in 2020 as part of the digital demo compilation Alone X: The Red-Raditude-Hurley Years.

Lyrics

Lyric sheet from the Deliverance at Hand! booklet.

I used to sing songs at the break of the day
"Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay"
Workin' myself into a frenzy
But I don't do that no more, no way
I used like-a learn how to speak-a Chinese
"O-kudasai" means "Baby, wouldja please"
Conjugatin' verbs with the greatest of ease
But I fell down hard on my bended knees

I feel like I've been run over by a truck
I don't care much about anything
I'm happy to sing
I'm lackin' the passion to do anything
I feel like I've been run over by a truck
I don't care much about anything
So give me a ring
And tell me to wake up and do anything

I used to play B-ball down at the park
Runnin' up the sideline until it got dark
Outside step over with my right foot
Push off with the outside of my left foot
I used to chat up the girls out in the club
Lookin' for one of 'em to give me some love
The show wasn't over till the dough-boy come
Old, young, fat, dumb, I loved everyone

I feel like I've been run over by a truck
I don't care much about anything
I'm happy to sing
I'm lackin' the passion to do anything
I feel like I've been run over by a truck
I don't care much about anything
So give me a ring
And tell me to wake up and do anything

Grandma never was a pushover
Ain't nobody try to step to her
She could teach a common hustler to dance in France
Till her plane came a-crashin' down
On the way to see the Cleveland Brown
She was scramblin' on fourth down
How I wish that I had been around
Ohh
How I wish that I had been around

I feel like I've been run over by a truck
I don't care much about anything
I'm happy to sing
I'm lackin' the passion to do anything
I feel like I've been run over by a truck
I don't care much about anything
So give me a ring
And tell me to wake up and do anything
I feel like I've been run over by a truck
