"Salty Lines" is a song written by Jason Cropper.

Overview

A short snippet of "Salty Lines" was played on Episode #21 of the Weezer-themed podcast We'z Talkin' Weez' 2 Thee, on which Cropper was a featured guest.

On May 22, 2020, Cropper performed the song in full during a stream to his Instagram and Facebook followers. Cropper went on to perform the song during various subsequent "Golden Hour" streams. Cropper has stated that the song was written about "a rough time" his friend Nate endured when Nate's wife suffered a life-threatening illness.

Lyrics

Money goes to money and rich kids wonder
Does anybody own a thing?
You follow your heart to a ??? owned by a diamond ring
The cost is your body and your freedom and your mind
You're in a hollowed-out sense of doom
Anybody left out is getting lonely
Dying in an empty room

I don't know why you climb this mountain
I don't know, but you try
When you get to the top and you understand
Go back to the bottom and die
Connect my body to your thoughts that are racing
Tearing through out minds
Like a sledgehammer pounding at the truth
Our heartbeats intertwined

All your eyes a mirror of mine
You climb up to the top and you turn around
Water burns your face in salty lines
You go back to the bottom and you try and try and try

Heartache comes and heartache goes
The moon pulls out the tide
You left your momma with an open wound
Where your daddy used to place his pride
Down in the valley where the children pray
For the angels to bless our lives
We might have to earn our way into heaven
We're never gonna realize
We carry the weight of an ancient grief
It's locked in every cell
And angels catcall devils who want us
To join them to burn in hell
You might understand my nightmares are just a shadow of your dreams
Love and light are hallucination
The best I've ever seen

All your eyes a mirror of mine
You climb up to the top and you turn around
Water burns your face in salty lines
You go back to the bottom and you try and try and try

I never meant to cause you any sorrow
I never meant to cause you any pain
