Appearances

Overview

Rivers Cuomo recorded a demo of "The Organ Player" to an Olympus handheld digital recorder in 2001.[1][2] This demo was released in November of 2020 as part of the digital demo compilation Alone VIII: The Maladroit Years. Following completion on the band's fourth album, Maladroit, Weezer immediately began work on a planned fifth album, recording new demos throughout the spring and summer of 2002. Two demos of "The Organ Player" (recorded at Sunset Sound Recorders in Los Angeles and The Lodge in Indianapolis, respectively) were shared with fans on the band's official website. Ultimately, all of the demos from the aforementioned sessions were scrapped, and the band's fifth album would not see release until 2005.

Lyrics

The people come and lay down on the ground
They want to hear all the beautiful sounds
Of the organ player
But in the crowd is a bitter young man
He can't accept what the other ones can
That the song is greater than him

Spreading vemon in the crowd
Laughing high horses aloud

The player plays, ever-furiously
He won't be swayed from the right melody
'Cause he knows its beauty
The bitter man shoots his arrows of flame
He's got to take on the source of his pain
At the cost of righteous thinking

Casting necromancer spells
Summoning demons from hell

The tones rise up
And spill his cup
He can't defeat this tune

Casting necromancer spells
Summoning demons from hell

Another verse and the melodies rise
A perfect tune doesn't need a disguise
'Cause there is no fighting
And nature says what is high and is low
And Father Time will reveal what is show
And the bitter man is falling

The tones rise up
And spill his cup
He can't defeat this tune

Another verse and the melodies rise
A perfect tune doesn't need a disguise
'Cause there is no fighting
And nature says what is high and is low
And Father Time will reveal what is show
And the bitter man is falling to his knees
On his knees

On his knees
On his knees
