An unreleased Weezer Christmas EP was, apparently, recorded in 2024. To date, it has not been formally announced or released.
Overview
On September 7, 2023, Rivers Cuomo joked about the existence of a Christmas album in passing on his Mister Rivers' Neighborhood Discord server: "JD said [the SZNZ box set will] be out for christmas. but the Christmas album is on hold till next year."[1] Later, on June 3, 2024, Cuomo posted a pun comparing prospective A20 producer Klas Åhlund's name to Sinterklaas: "we liked working with Klas. He was a real saint."[2] Fans have taken both messages to mean that there is, in fact, a Christmas album currently in production.[3]
Dissimilar to A20 and other modern Weezer projects, very few songs have been publicly floated as potential inclusions for the album. On May 15, 2024, Discord user taylorlee (an assistant of Cuomo's) requested an MP3 copy of the song "Merry Christmas Everyone" for Cuomo's use[4] — it is believed that the song may have been recorded for the album. Additionally, the song "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday" was recorded by the band sometime in 2024 and debuted in the Hallmark film Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story on November 30.
Cuomo posted an in-studio photo with the caption "Guitar-tracking, Klas style" to Discord on May 25, 2024[5] and later revealed the band was in the studio with Åhlund for nine days working on a project unrelated to A20.[6] He teased Discord users speculating about the project's contents, musing "how has no one figured it out yet", then later noting that it is "not a secret" and that he had "been very forthcoming" about it. Members of the server eventually reached the consensus that he was referring to the Christmas album.[citation needed]
No Christmas album has yet been released. When asked about it in January of 2025, Cuomo responded "xmas covers ep is done." When further probed about a potential release date, Cuomo said "no idea. there's a real art to release timing and that's more crush's department."[citation needed]
