Thoughts from a Green Mind (or, It’s Not Easy Being Green) is a piece written by Karl Koch in 2021 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Weezer’s Green Album.


5/15/21 marks 20 years to the day from the release of our 3rd album, “weezer” aka “The Green Album”. This is quite a milestone because at the time, it was considered to be the beginning of a new era - the first new weezer album in 5 years, first since the departure of original bass player Matt, and a fresh new start for a band that the press and many casual fans had written off after Pinkerton’s undeserved slow fade out in ‘97.

"The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Hymn)" is the third single and second track from The Red Album. Deciding that he was tired of the typical verse-chorus-verse structure of songwriting, Rivers Cuomo instead decided to write a song using the musical structure of theme and variations, as used in classical music, utilizing different bands and musician styles (Slipknot, Jeff Buckley, Aerosmith, etc.) as the different variations.
