"Zombie Bastards" is the second track and second single from The Black Album.

Overview

The track was first hinted at on November 16, 2018, with a tweet containing the phrase "Die, die you zombie bastards". The existence of a new song was confirmed on November 17 as a response to a fan's tweet. The song was again confirmed the day before release, although without revealing its title.

In a November, 2018 interview of Rivers Cuomo and Dave Sitek conducted by Scott Heisel, Heisel stated that the original title of the song was "Die, Die You Zombie Bastards"[1].

The sample of actor Vincent Price saying "You know they're out there, don't you?" originates from the 1964 film Last Man on Earth.

Video

The music video for "Zombie Bastards" was directed by Jasper Graham and Jade Ehlers.

Lyrics

Die, die you zombie bastards
We know what you want

Welcome to the jungle, to the jungle
Baby it's you and me
Walk between the raindrops, ‘tween the raindrops
Singing along to Queen
My heart pumps Kool-Aid
Everybody's playing it safe, la-dee-da
Dig a little deeper, little bit deeper
Baby it's you and me

That's right
Music saved my life
Wild eyes
We don't have much time

Die, die you zombie bastards
We know what you want
Die, die you zombie bastards
Keep on, blah, blah, blah
We can go up, we go down
We gon’ run you out of town
We can go up, we go down
We’ll be seeing you around, yeah
Die, die you zombie bastards

I don't know karate or kung fu
But I'm gonna’ make it in this world
Won't be pumping diesel
For mean people
I'ma fight back with words
Listen to reason
Or we'll get cast out of Egypt, la-dee-da
I'm just trying to live
And get my kicks in
You gotta’ be human first

That's right
Music saved my life
Wild eyes
We don't have much time

Die, die you zombie bastards
We know what you want
Die, die you zombie bastards
Keep on, blah, blah, blah
We can go up, we go down
We gon’ run you out of town
We can go up, we go down
We’ll be seeing you around, yeah
Die, die you zombie bastards

If I die it means that I, lived my life
And that’s much better than hiding in a hole

Die, die you zombie bastards
Die, die you zombie bastards
We know what you want
Die, die you zombie bastards
Keep on, blah, blah, blah
We can go up, we go down
We gon’ run you out of town
We can go up, we go down
We’ll be seeing you around, yeah
Die, die you zombie bastards
