Up until late 2007 Weezer was strictly the band that supplied the theme song of my ~*childhood*~, "Beverly Hills"; at that point, a dear friend of mine with a much better taste in music than my own introduced me to "Undone". My life was forever changed, and it was in a state of absolute bliss that I forwarded the "Buddy Holly" video to my clique (ie, those who wore track jackets ironically and subsequently got their asses beat by those who didn't), who were, for the most part, unimpressed by the slammin' guitar hooks and lyrics that, it would seem, perfectly exemplified our suburban white kid angst not only in the aforementioned song, but also in the many others that I eagerly sent in the following months.
Since then, I've become well-versed in Weez-fu (Hey, Mom, who's too uncoordinated for martial arts now?) and use it on a regular basis. I own every album except Maladroit, but my beloved Pinkerton is the only one in heavy rotation these days. I distinctly remember the sensation of buying my first--well, first two--albums--I went out to get Blue, and an elated Best Buy worker serenaded me with "Getchoo" in the middle of the crowded store, thus convincing me to pick up Pinkerton.
