Overview
"Don't Go Gentle" was written by Cuomo as a song in contention for what would eventually become Weezer's ninth album, Everything Will Be Alright in the End. The song's title and lyrics directly reference the poem "Do not go gentle into that good night" by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas (1914-1953):
Do not go gentle into that good night
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Lyrics
Don't
Don't go gentle into that good night
Rage, rage against the dying of the light
I hate to see you surrender without a fight
Don't go gentle into that good night
Here you are, broken down
Want your pot of gold
We're a force in a field
Now your trail is cold
You've got nothing, no emotions
Not a sign of life
Gotta wake up in a moment
'Cause it's time to try
Don't
Don't go gentle into that good night
Rage, rage against the dying of the light
I hate to see you surrender without a fight
Don't go gentle into that good night
You were young, you were strong
You were made of steel
Now you'll fade, vacillate
As they take the wheel
You're a danger to society
'Cause you don't think right
They've got troubles, they've been digging
Now its time to fight
Don't
Don't go gentle into that good night
Rage, rage against the dying of the light
I hate to see you surrender without a fight
Don't go gentle into that good night
Don't go gentle into that good night
