Overview
The existence of "Hawaii" became known in October of 2020, when several demos of the song were listed on the in-progress demo storefront on riverscuomo.com, including several with "2019" in the filename, and one indicating that the track was in contention for the band's then-forthcoming album Van Weezer. On November 7, 2020, a Rivers Cuomo demo of "Hawaii" was among hundreds leaked online through riverscuomo.com. The song was repurposed for the 2015 demo "Since You Came Around."
