Overview

The existence of "No Bars" first became known when it was described by fans who alleged to have heard it at listening parties between fall of 2012 and fall of 2013. According to these accounts, the song utilized cellphones as metaphors for a relationship. The song's existence was confirmed when it appeared on the riverscuomo.com demo storefront in October of 2020. The song was released as part of Alone XI on November 22.

The song's verse melody is shared by another demo from this era, "Rock and Roll Cockroach", which later formed the basis for the Van Weezer track "Beginning of the End".

Lyrics

Demo #13

She's gonna give him
All of the love a girl can give
While I am stuck in the middle of nowhere
Lookin' at my phone
Like, what do I do to pass the time?
Repeatedly play a game of Brick Breaker?

I ain't got no bars
To call up my girl
She's out with another man
There's nothing I can do

99 bucks
And 25 Max Points at the store
I should have splurged
And gotten an Android

I ain't got no bars
To call up my girl
She's out with another man
There's nothing I can do

Is anyone there?
Can anyone make sweet love to me?
Or maybe just talk, or buy me an ice cream?
'Cause I am as lonely
As an animal locked within a cage
Down in the hull of a big ocean-liner

I ain't got no bars
To call up my girl
She's out with another man
There's nothing I can do

There's nothing I can do
